The principle of operation of the KI-13 compass is based on the interaction of the permanent magnets of the compass with the earth's magnetic field.
A column with a spring and a thrust bearing is fixed in the compass case, against which the heart of the card rests.
The vibrations of the card are damped with naphtha, poured into the compass body.
The scale of the compass card KI-13K is uniform, with a graduation of 5 ° and digitized every 30 °. The two main courses "North" and "South" are marked respectively "N" and "S".
A deviation device is attached to the bottom of the compass to eliminate semicircular deviation.
